Trump Imagines How People Would Squawk Had COVID-19 Attack Erupted On His Watch
Former President Donald Trump suggested in an interview that critics would have been so much harder on him than on President Joe Biden had there been a COVID-19 âattackâ on his watch like the one occurring now.
In fact, there was a COVID-19 âattackâ â" a pandemic, in fact â" when he was president.
But Trump compared the coronavirus last year to little more than a case of the flu, and insisted 18 months ago that cases within days would go down âclose to zero.â The U.S. ended up tallying 25 million cases of COVID-19, and deaths topped 400,000 by the end of his administration.
He seemed to forget that part when he called in Saturday night to Fox News host Dan Bongino.
âCould you imagine if I were president right now and we had this massive attack from the coronavirus?â he asked. âIf that were me, they would say, âWhat a horrible thing, what a horrible job.â And I donât ever hear that.â
Trump: Could you imagine if I were President right now and we had this massive attack from the Coronavirus. You know they like to call it the, they have new names and theyâll have other new names but itâs exactly what we had. pic.twitter.com/HwAqce3S60
â" Acyn (@Acyn) August 8, 2021Many of the rest of his comments were also confusing, including the one following his âimagineâ remark: âYou know now they like to call it the, they have new names and theyâll have other new names, but itâs exactly what we had, we had the same thing.â The phrase he was likely searching for was the âdelta variantâ of the coronavirus. At least he acknowledged itâs similar to âwhat we hadâ during his administration.
He also bragged about getting vaccines â" which were created by private companies â" âdone so quickly.â He claimed to be a âbig fanâ of both vaccines and âour freedoms.â
âIâm a fan of our freedoms, and people have to make that choice for themselves. And I would recommend that they get it and they get it done and theyâre being protected. And the vaccines turned out to be a tremendous thing. And I also though feel strongly there are some people who do not want to do it, and I really believe in somebodyâs choice, somebodyâs freedom, and thatâs the way it is,â he said, referring yet again to the âChina virus.â
Last May, Trump indicated that vaccines werenât all that important.
âI feel about vaccines like I feel about tests,â he said. âThis is going to go away without a vaccine. Itâs gonna go away, and weâre not going to see it again.â
This is a confusing statement.

â" Brian Tyler Cohen (@briantylercohen) August 8, 2021Layers of sick. Trump politicized the pandemic and spread the virus while campaigning after letting it rage in blue states/downplaying it. He then caught it, ignored it to spark insurrection/let it spike a 3rd time, then GOP governors pushed us into 4th wave so he could blame Joe
