Patients being treated for Covid-19 at Bolton Hospital drops

The number of patients being treated for coronavirus at the Royal Bolton Hospital has fallen.

Patient numbers at the borough's hospital had remained high for a number of weeks despite a fall in the number of cases being recorded.

However, the latest NHS England data available shows that Covid patient numbers have now begun to decrease.

As of August 17, the latest data publicly available, a total of 36 people were being treated for Covid-19 at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

This is a significant fall from the week before, August 10, where 47 people were being treated.

A high of 60 people were in hospital for Covid as recently as July 22 with at least 40 people in hospital until August 14 when the patient numbers fell.

Patient numbers first fell to 37 on August 14, before falling again to 36 on August 16 and 17.

The number of people on mechanical ventilation beds, the treatment for the most severe cases of Covid, has also dropped significantly.

Three people required this treatment as of August 17 â€" as many as 11 people required this in July.

At least four people died between August 14 and August 19 according to NHS England from Covid at Bolton Hospital, taking the overall amount of people who have died from coronavirus at the hospital to 702.

Patient numbers had dropped as low as 11 at the start of May, but the current number of patients is still far lower than previous highs during the pandemic, with Bolton Hospital treating as many as 150 people at points in January this year.
