Farnworth building destroyed in arson attack to be rebuilt
PLANS have been submitted to rebuild a building destroyed in a Christmas arson attack.
Two former dental laboratories on 57 Plodder Lane, in Farnworth, were destroyed in a fire in the early hours of December 27 2019, gutting that businesses and the laundrette next to it.
The building was reduced to rubble after the arson attack which closed the road for a number of days.
The damage caused to the building, making it unsafe, meant it had to be demolished, lying empty ever since.
Police described the incident at the time as a âpremeditated arson attack that caused severe damage to the premises and buildings surrounding itâ, with an appeal made to find the two men responsible.
The fire was thought to have started at Pristine Dental Lab, spreading through the building to R&W Dental Lab on the floor above and affecting Retail Laundry next door.
No one was injured in the attack.
A planning application has now been submitted to put up a building in its place creating both retail space and flats.
The application states: âProposed re-build of property after fire demolition with retail on ground floor, one studio flat, two two bedroom flats and a dormer attic at 57 Plodder Lane, Farnworth, Bolton.â
What the retail space would be used for is not said.
Greater Manchester Police were asked for an update on any arrests or charges made with regards to this incident.
R&W Dental Lab had been run by Michael Alan Wolfendale and Nigel Bleese since 1980 before the business and most items inside were destroyed by the blaze.
