Bolton man taken to hospital after robbery in Astley Bridge

THE victim of a robbery was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after a “street fight” in Bolton.

Police were called to Blackburn Road, Astley Bridge, shortly after 3.15pm after a confrontation took place between two men near The Lamb Inn.

A man in his 30s was left injured after another man attempted to steal his white van, before getting away on foot towards the nearby Asda supermarket.

A video was later posted online by a local business owner, documenting the incident.

The Facebook footage, by Jessica Kay, the owner of Wet and Wild Seafood, shows a van owner fighting back against someone who he thought was trying to get into his vehicle in Bolton.

In the video a man in a high-vis vest is seen shouting “that’s my van” - and then charging at a second man with a large stick.

The video goes on for around two minutes and the driver is seen chasing the other man off into a wooded area.

The van owner was taken to hospital with his injuries - but has since been discharged, according to police.

Eyewitness Mrs Kay said: “I was driving along our normal delivery route yesterday near the junction of Blackburn Road and Seymour Road, near The Lamb Inn, when I saw the confrontation happen.

“A man had tried to steal the van belonging to the man with the high-vis jacket, and tried to slash him with a knife. I don’t know who the van belongs to.

“He ran off on foot - but we had to carry on with our deliveries.”

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information about the attack to get in touch.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a report of a robbery on Blackburn Road in Bolton just after 3.15pm on August 4.

“A man in his 30s was left injured after another man, described as white, of medium build with dark hair, attempted to steal his van before fleeing towards Asda.

“The victim was later treated in hospital for his injuries and he has since been discharged. Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.”
